Maximum number of primary partitions
Some people think that the term “partition” means to divide the drive into two or more partitions. That’s an incorrect concept because when you partition a drive you create one or more partitions on it.
We have to have at least one partition on it to use a drive. Those people who think they don’t have a partitioned drive actually have a drive with only a single partition on it, which is so called C:.
The real choice is whether to have more than one partition, not whether to partition at all, since every drive has one partition.
I tend to be forgetful about what the maximum number of primary partitions is.
- On a x86 disk : 4
- On a SCSI disk : 15
- On an IDE drive: 63
